Wednesday, March 15 2023. Riyadh, Saudi Arabia: His Excellency Mr. Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, Minister of Finance, participated in the dialogue session entitled "Sustainability of Global Public Debt and the Role of Major Organizations" during the second edition of the Financial Sector Conference, which will be held during the period 15-16 March 2023 in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
During the dialogue session, they discussed the high rates of global public debt, the declining sustainability of public debt, in addition to the role of national organizations in taming public debt levels. During the session, HE the Minister of Finance stressed that Qatar's financial policy strongly supports the role of the International Monetary Fund, the Group of Twenty, the Paris Club and other international organizations in helping to manage and prevent debt crises, and pointed to the importance of agreeing on a broader common framework to address debt.
His Excellency also underlined the importance of agreeing on a broader common framework for debt treatment and said: "There has been an important shift in the GCC since the 2016 oil crash towards medium-term financial planning and more disciplined debt management practices through dedicated entities within ministries of finance. This strategy and initiatives have yielded positive results."
It is worth noting that the conference is held under the slogan "Promising Financial Horizons", with the participation of a group of Their Excellencies Ministers, senior leaders and executives of the most prominent international institutions.
